Makomboki Tea Factory was constructed between 1979 and 1981 and commissioned on 21st September, 1981.


Makomboki Tea Factory is a leading tea processing factory located in Kigumo Sub-County, Murang’a County, in Kenya’s fertile central highlands. It operates under the management of the Kenya Tea Development Agency, which oversees tea production for smallholder farmers across the country. The factory serves thousands of local tea growers, processing high-quality green leaf into black CTC tea for both local and international markets. Known for its commitment to quality and innovation, Makomboki has gained recognition as one of the top-performing factories in Murang’a County in terms of farmer returns and production efficiency.

Today, Makomboki Tea Factory stands as a model of sustainable tea processing and farmer-centered growth, blending tradition with innovation to maintain Kenya’s reputation as a global leader in premium tea production.

To increase production of Tea per Bush within Makomboki catchment area, improve quality and reduce collection and production cost. Hence enhance the income to the farmers per unit area of production
