Makomboki Tea Factory was constructed between 1979-1981 and commissioned on 21st September, 1981. It is best known for the production of high quality CTC teas. The factory occupies an area of 19.8 acres and serves 5096 growers in 100 leaf collection centres. The area under tea is 1742 hectares with a total of 16,389,667 tea bushes.

Kigumo Division, Muranga South District approximately 90Km from Nairobi and 40Km from Thika.

It is 1oS of the equator and 37oE of meridian at a height of about 2160M above sea level. The environment has favourable climatic conditions of an average rainfall of 1400 – 1500mm annually in two main seasons March-May, October-November. The area has good terrain well served with Humic Nitosols soils and natural features surrounding it. They include: Ndakai-ini Dam, Aberdare Ranges on the northern side, Thika river on the western side and Chathanda river on the eastern side.
